I Did It!

I can't tell you how long I've wanted to accomplish such a challenge that most would say is insane. I had a goal this last year to run at least one 5k a month and only ended up running just TWO but it was rewarding and it felt good when I crossed the finish line. Then I was inspired by my church when they started a running group with the ultimate goal to train for a 1/2 marathon and run for an awesome charity called Team ASK (Athletes for Special Kids). Getting together with others that had the same goals, pushing each other to the finish was just the extra support I needed. I trained for about a month and then got busy with the holiday season and didn't train like I'd intended but I did reach 7 miles on our long Saturday morning runs. So as the New Year began and life was getting back to normal.... I said, "I've gotta do it!" because I committed to it and I want to at least try.

It was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay toooooooooo early ( 3:30 am) and a little to cold (40 something) but I got up, drove to Epcot, and found a team member to run with. I started the first few miles with a brisk walk to warm up the muscles then meet up with another team member and started to run/walk to the finish. I felt great up until the mile I thought would never come .... mile #10 but after that there was no looking back. I have to admit the best part of the race besides finishing was when we ran through the Disney Magic Kingdom. There were so many loved ones cheering us on and all the characters where there to show their support and pose for pictures. I have to say that Disney sure knows how to make 13.1 mile run fun with entertainment and music along the way. It is definitely an experience worth trying if you don't mind a 2-4 hour walk or run. I will do it again and hope to convince my husband to join me.

Here are a few snapshots of the fun.

Yeah, I did it in 3 hours and 13 minutes!
